Last day in Prague

Wednesday, 16 September

For our last day in Prague we opted for a more casual pace. Breakfast in a pretty cafe with sheepskins on the seats to keep us warm and a stroll through little passageways that took us to the Old Town Square. Here we found a little train which took people up to the castle and back through the Jewish quarter. The day was sunny and warm so it was a much more comfortable trip to the castle, where we saw much more of the many palaces and buildings .... and crowds!

On our return we made our way back to the house of the Black Madonna and up to the Grand Cafe Orient on the first floor. This is Prague's famous Cubist building and Cubist cafe, and another of the famous coffee houses of Prague. Finally we had time for coffee and cake. Judy even chose a Cubist pastry. I can leave Prague satisfied that I have thoroughly checked out the cafe scene.

Now it was time to turn our attention to the river. We wandered through the Jewish quarter and down to the river where we boarded ship for a two hour river cruise. It was lovely to meet the English couple who had been on the morning train ride as we really enjoyed chatting to them. By now the weather was pretty hot so we spent most of the cruise inside while a few very fair-skinned Brits cooked themselves up on deck. Lorraine took a professional interest in the lock as we went upstream to the Dancing House.

Home again for a cuppa before venturing out to dinner in a little Italian cafe just round the corner. Tired again and happy to have another early night.

  1. Sounds great. Palenque here and incredibly HOT and humid. GF does not exist in this country in the cake section.
