Oslo!

Saturday 9 December

Just a quick note to say I’m here after a long but very easy journey. The flight from Helsinki to Oslo was only about an hour and a half, with a one hour time change. All up I think about 30 hours of travelling but with all the time zones and transit stops I may be way off. I went through Immigration in Helsinki, which is where I entered the Schengen zone so it was just collect the luggage and go once I got to Oslo.

Oslo airport is lovely. Thousands of bud lights making this dark night feel warm and starry. Great signage to the trains and a helpful lady when I bought my ticket. I simply went down an escalator and onto platform 4 for my train. Come on Melbourne, this is what we need!!!!!

I had unpacked my coat when I was in the luggage hall and it did the job well while I stood on the platform waiting for the train. Everything here was clearly marked as well so I felt confident hopping on the train and getting off in the right place. Very welcome after my last French train experience!

Need a coffee while you commute? It’s right here in the carriage.

It was only about a 5 minute walk from Nationaltheatret station to the hotel. Again, there was a sign pointing to the street I needed. Everything was lit up beautifully including the Christmas markets which I’ll be exploring while I wait for Rob and Judy. They arrive early afternoon.

Bed was very welcome and although I woke a few times I’ve had a good sleep. It’s 7.40am and still completely black outside. No rush to get up as breakfast doesn’t start till 8 on the weekends. Can’t wait to see Oslo and meet Rob and Judy.
