Trinidad

Friday 3 June

Woke up with an unhappy tummy which made walking around town in the heat a real struggle. The streets are made of stones which started out as ballast on the ships. You had to walk very carefully on them. Our first stop was a pottery factory where they had obviously never heard of O H & S. We went into a shop that supplied rations. Everyone gets a certain amount and you use your own money to buy more. Children get a milk ration until they are 8.

We visited a museum of architecture, a bar where we sampled another local cocktail (not to my taste) and had lunch (I didn't) in a nice little cafe with a great band. Every time we stop for a meal or a drink break or even to take photos in a square, a band appears from nowhere, always with a CD to sell. They're all good too.

We returned to our hotel for the afternoon, which suited me just fine as I went to bed and stayed there until the next day. Some much needed recovery time.
