Hyannis

Thursday, 17 October

We had a fairly leisurely start to the day today, wandering across the road to the post office and then the JFK Museum that Lorraine had recommended. They had great photos on display there, with the emphasis on the Hyannis connection. We actually saw the Kennedy house from the ferry yesterday. The day was very windy and, as predicted, the ferries were not running. A big thank you to those blokes in Plymouth who warned us.

After a morning cuppa in a little cafe that had not yet closed for the season we headed all the way to Provincetown at the end of Cape Cod, about an hour’s drive. No beautiful autumn leaves this time, it was mostly conifers and not at all scenic. We did see a number of wild turkeys looking for a way to escape the perils of Thanksgiving. There were also a number of trees and branches down, and when we found ourselves at the sea there was a yacht that had come to grief against the sea wall.

With a little help from a nice lady in a car beside us, we found our way to a car park in the town that was charging $6 as compared to the $20 one of them wanted. The town seems to consist of narrow one way streets that don’t necessarily take you where you want to go. Had lunch at “The Mayflower” and a bit of a look around the town. There were a lot of pairs of women about due to some sort of women’s festival that was on. Also a lot of rainbow flags!

Monument to the pilgrims

Back to our motel for a cuppa and a relax before returning to last night’s bistro for another good dinner.

  1. Houses worth millions just doesn’t seem right in the original lands of the pious pilgrims. So lucky that you could change your plans. Otherwise your tale of woe would have nearly matched Lorraine’s!
