Monday, 14 October - Columbus Day
It was a misty morning as we left Kennebunkport and the first part of our drive south continued that way but an hour or so along the road it cleared and we had sunshine.
We chose an interesting time of year to visit Salem as Halloween is approaching and the town was full of people getting into the spooky spirit. The traffic was bumper to bumper entering town but we found a parking spot and walked a couple of blocks to where it was all happening. A bit different from my visit here last December. Today there were stalls and people in costume all through the mall area and a policeman was directing traffic and pedestrians on the main road. We visited the museum
and the memorials to those killed during the witch trials. Had an ice cream for lunch and then we
were on our way again.
Tomtom took us on the motorway right through and under Boston, then south to Plymouth. A LOT of people were also on the motorway, going home after the long weekend. (Think of the Monash at peak hour.) Our motel, the Pilgrim Sands, is right on the beach and we can hear the waves just outside our window. There was some interesting fog out at sea this evening, but fortunately it didn’t affect our drive in and out of town for dinner.
I so recognise the house of the judge! More people and pumpkins though. Very clever to go UNDER Boston. Video was great too...certainly not an Australian street.
ReplyDeleteHi girls. Enjoying the videos tho you are both very quiet in the car. I remember being in Salem on the actual day 31 Oct. Scary. We are getting excited here as we get ready to fly out Friday morning. Safe travels.
ReplyDeleteFriendly policeman - makes you think the witches are safe.
