Not much news today as I have been very lazy and the weather is hot. I had a lovely call from Lott this morning, checking that I am getting on OK in Germany. That was so kind of her.
I went to the supermarket and bakery this morning and made myself a tomato sandwich for lunch. A tomato sandwich is one of life’s simple pleasures.
Had a bit of a read and then went for a little walk in the town. The photos are the Lion Fountain, the Pharmacy and the town hall (Rathaus). There are two strange bronze sculpted characters that spin around and I have no idea what they are supposed to be. A child was spinning on one so I didn’t photograph it. Might do so another day.
I did a bit of window shopping and checked out the department store, the name of which I’ve forgotten. Then I had my afternoon ice cream treat at the Eis cafe. This has become a very bad habit but I’m only here for a couple of weeks so what the heck!
When I got home a woman was doing some cleaning and watering in the courtyard/garden and we had a little conversation. She comes from Colombia I think and we talked about learning German and how difficult the grammar is. Her native language is Spanish. I laughed when she told me that she thinks English is a romantic language.
Tonight I plan to cook a proper, sort of, German meal - a Bratwurstschnecke ( bratwurst snail) and some rotkohl. I’ve also got a zucchini. Today at the supermarket I learned how to put a price sticker on my fruit and veg before I take it to the cashier. I got some funny looks last time when the cashier had to weigh it all.
The six o’clock bells are ringing again. This afternoon around 4 there was some bell ringing which sounded very happy and I decided it must be a Saturday afternoon wedding.
And that’s my day in Offenburg.
Some most interesting features in your town, Heather. Once again, gorgeous day for wandering. Would love to be there to share your German meal. Did I tell you that I cooked your/ Judy’s 40 cloves of garlic chicken?
ReplyDeleteHi Karen. How was your chicken? It's a real favourite of ours! J&R

ReplyDeleteuThanks rutts re pics of place. sorry. it sure is spacious. english a romantic language, thats a laugh. She obviously hasnt heard queenslanders chat!! Yes I got caught with needing to weigh an apple but they made me go back and do it!!
ReplyDeleteLorraine.
Pretty buildings. You must be feeling quite at home there now. Gotta love a fresh tomato sandwich. 😀🍅 I love the sleepy man fountain; what big toes he has! I would have liked to talk to your Columbian lady - she could have corrected my clumsy, slow Spanish! 🙄
ReplyDeleteSounds like a lovely relaxing day😀. I hope you enjoyed your meal. The red cabbage and apple Rotkohl( courtesy of Imre) would be delicious with the Bratwurst. Those daily ice cream treats are mandatory in that hot weather!
ReplyDeleteSuch fairytale buildings! Very atmospheric!
Keep cool

Just lovely Rutts. Love the intense blue skies!
ReplyDeleteAnne & l are sitting in Athens airport about to fly to Sicily tonight! Enjoy those ice creams. Anne & l insist that they are mandatory.
