A bit of a lazy day today. Did some washing at the Waschsalon and finished my book, “At the breakfast table” by Defne Suman. I enjoyed this book, set in Turkey, with most of the story taking place through the course of one day but including past memories and events.
Did a little window shopping this afternoon and explored a couple of streets I haven’t been down before. Also spent some time planning where to go and what to see tomorrow. There was a weather warning on the DB website about possible severe rain storms so I’m not going to worry about booking until tomorrow when I see what the day is like.
One thing that has shocked me about Germany is the number of people smoking. I get a whiff of cigarette smoke just about anywhere I go and there are even ashtrays on the tables at the Eis cafe. You don’t see rubbish on the streets but there are cigarette butts everywhere.
After yesterday’s giant ice cream I toned it down today and just had some lemon sorbet. I really hadn’t earned anything more. There were a couple of little kids playing right in the fountain behind the cafe today. It has been a popular spot for kids in this hot weather. A few days ago there were some older folk sitting with their feet in another fountain and I was very tempted to join them.
Fountains are definitely the public/local pools of Europe. Have you come across cigarette vending machines in residential areas? Do the locals do the evening-social-walk thing?
ReplyDeleteWould love a lemon sorbet in the heat
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to be in the same place for long enough to feel as if you don't have to be out being a tourist all the time! Your sorbet looks appealing and somewhat more moderate than yesterday! I found the Borofsky democracy people in the Offenburg Teeming (where's Wally 😉) picture. Did you take a photo on Tuesday or were the storks more exciting?? All that smoke inhalation sounds unpleasant. Good luck with tomorrow's weather. Still freezing here.
ReplyDeleteLovely to have our chat yesterday. We are also doing quality checks on every gelato shop we see.
